Women Make Movies (WMM) has acquired US rights to Kim Longinotto’s documentary Pink Saris ahead of its world premiere in Toronto.
The film tells the story of a woman who left her arranged marriage and went on to champion beleaguered women’s rights in the Northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
Longinotto credits include Rough Aunties, Divorce Iranian Style, and Sisters In Law, which previously screened in Toronto.
2010 is a year of change for the Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 9-19) with the opening of the event’s new headquarters. Tom Tykwer’s German thriller was a breakout for the director and his star star Franka Potente.
“Our real value add now is in terms of international sales,” revealed Oli Harbottle of Dogwoof.
