EXCLUSIVE: UK-based sales company Impronta Films has acquired sales rights to CPH:DOX title Homesick.
Homesick will have its world premiere on Saturday, March 14 in the Nordic:Dox competition at CPH:DOX.
The film follows director Taekyung Tanja Inwol’s story as an adoptee, taking in the story of a Danish family from Denmark’s windswept west coast to the mountains of South Korea, and including domestic violence, divorce and suicide attempts.
It is produced by Rikke Tambo Andersen for Denmark’s Tambo Film, with backing from the Danish Film Institute, TV2, and West Danish Film Fund.
Homesick is Taekyung’s second feature documentary, after 2020’s A Colombian Family, which also played at CPH:DOX.
“I hope this film can spark conversations and perhaps a broader reflection on how important is the preservation of the nuclear family for the individual and for society — and on what premises?” said Taekyung. “Who actually has the right to form a family, and can it be at the expense of others? And why is the nuclear family considered so sacred?”
Impronta Films’ slate includes Susanne Brandstaetter’s sci-fi documentary Hungry, which had its world premiere in January at International Film Festival Rotterdam.
