EXCLUSIVE: Argentina’s Bikini Films led by Juan Pablo Félix has teamed with Chile’s Quijote Films, Peru’s Mano de Obra Films, Brazil’s África Filmes and CUP Filmes, Spain’s Potenza Producciones and Amore Cine, and France’s Epicentre Films on Ofelia, which is heading into post-production.
Ofelia brings together for the first time two of Latin America’s most internationally acclaimed actresses – Érica Rivas from Damián Szifron’s Wild Tales and Antonia Zegers from Marcela Said’s Los Perros – alongside Darío Grandinetti (Pedro Almodóvar’s Talk To Her) and Blas Polidori (J A Bayona’s Society Of The Snow).
The film follows a powerful 52-year-old Argentine landowner (Rivas) whose conservative aristocratic life begins to fracture when a former lover (Zegers) re-enters her world two decades later. Through a late coming-of-age story, the film explores contemporary Argentina through social inequality, ideological divides and tensions around land and wealth.
The project has undergone an extensive development process, taking part in several international script labs and securing backing from programmes including Creative Europe Media and Ibermedia.
The feature also stands out as one of the few productions to shoot in Argentina this year amid the country’s deepening production crisis. In January, Hernán Findling, president of Argentina’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, warned local media that only 10-12 films could ultimately shoot in the country in 2026.
Bikini’s debut Karnawal won best first feature at the Platino Awards and top prizes at Málaga, Sanfic and Guadalajara among others.
