The BBC’s head of development for drama Bradley Down is to leave the business to join LuckyChap’s newly fashioned international division, headed up by former Netflix and BBC drama chiefs Mona and Tanya Qureshi, Screen’s sister site Broadcast has revealed.

Down will become head of development, TV & film at LuckyChap International, which launched in January this year after Margot Robbie’s US-based film and TV indie LuckyChap partnered with Mediawan Group.

The Qureshi sisters serve as co-managing directors of international at the nascent division, which has yet to announce any projects but aims to leverage the “unique voices working in the UK and Europe”.

Down stepped up as head of development for drama at the BBC in October last year, having acted up in the role for six months prior. When in post he worked on Open Water from Mam Tor and B-Side Productions and Honey from Sid Gentle.

Previously, he was senior development executive at Complete Fiction Pictures for five years, with credits including Netflix’s Lockwood & Co.

LuckyChap International is majority-owned and controlled by LuckyChap, which is a co-producer on Rich Peppiatt’s Kneecap follow-up Bad Bridgets, set to shoot in June, and dramas including Netflix miniseries Maid, Hulu comedy Dollface and Mike Tyson series Mike, and Netflix’s Sirens.

Broadcast understands the BBC will be announcing a new head of development for drama in the coming weeks.
