
Iain Munro, CEO of Creative Scotland and Screen Scotland, will leave his position at the end of this year.
The Creative Scotland board has begun a recruitment process for his successor.
Munro was named deputy CEO following the establishment of the Scottish government-backed creative industries body Creatives Scotland in 2010. He became interim CEO in 2018, the year that Screen Scotland was established as an arm of Creative Scotland focused on driving the development of Scotland’s film and TV industries. He took up the role of CEO permanently in 2019.
Munro started at the Scottish Arts Council in 1996 and was central to the launch of National Lottery funding for culture in Scotland.
Creative Scotland’s 2026/7 grant-in-aid budget from the Scottish government was £100.7m. Screen Scotland has an annual budget of £20m, with Isabel Davis remaining executive director – screen.
Recent Screen Scotland-backed productions include Edinburgh closing-night documentary Bel and Sundance 2026 world premieres Lady, The Incomer and doc Everybody To Kenmure Street.
“Iain has been a tireless champion of Scotland’s culture and creativity for 30 years and his positive contribution to the sector, and to public life more broadly, has been immeasurable,” said Robert Wilson, chair of Creative Scotland. “We are all thankful to him for everything that he has achieved.”
