Wicked: For Good star Cynthia Erivo will be honoured with the Derek Malcolm award for innovation at the 46th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, taking place on February 1 2026.

Erivo is the third recipient of the annual award, named in memory of the legendary critic Derek Malcolm, who died aged 91 in August 2023. Previous recipients are Colman Domingo and Zoe Saldaña.

The UK-born actor and musician is an Emmy, Grammy and Tony award winner, with three Oscar nominations for her performance as Harriet Tubman in Harriet as well as Elphaba in the first Wicked film.

She has also appeared on stage, making her Broadway debut in The Color Purple, and released two studio albums. She is the first Black actress to be nominated twice for best actress in a motion picture – musical or comedy at the Golden Globes, for Wicked and Wicked: For Good.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another leads the way with most nominations ahead of February’s awards ceremony with nine, followed by Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet with eight and Ryan Coogler’s horror Sinners in seven categories.
