Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet is close behind with eight nominations, including film of the year, British/Irish film of the year, and director and screenwriter nominations for Zhao – the latter shared with Maggie O’Farrell. Jessie Buckley is also nominated for actress for her role as Agnes Shakespeare.

Vampire horror Sinners took seven nominations, including film of the year and director and screenwriter nominations for Ryan Coogler, while Josh Safdie’s sports drama Marty Supreme received six, including actor of the year for Timothee Chalamet.

First-time feature director Eva Victor received an impressive four nominations herself for Sorry, Baby, as part of five nods for the film, while three Cannes 2025 titles each received four nominations: Oliver Laxe’s Sirat, Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value and Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind.

Other UK-Irish titles on the lists include Harry Lighton’s Pillion with three nods; James Griffiths’s The Ballad Of Wallis Island; Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia; and Kirk Jones’s I Swear.

“At a time when AI and homogeny seems to be the shorthand answer to everything, it’s encouraging to see the films that our members voted for are teeming with human life, creativity and unique perspectives,” said Jane Crowther, London Critics’ Circle film section chair. “Boasting bold, vital stories, real experiences and artistry, these movies and their creative teams are evidence that not everything can be made by an algorithm.”

The winners in all categories will be announced at The May Fair in London on February 1, 2026, during a ceremony hosted by UK critic Mark Kermode.
