Baltasar Kormákur’s Icelandic foreign language Oscar submission and survival story premiered in Toronto and will open through Focus Features’ alternative distribution label in the first half of 2013.

The Deep shot entirely in Iceland, much of it on the open sea, and stars Olafur Darri Olafsson in the true story of a fisherman who survives after his boat capsizes.

Jon Atli Jonasson and Kormákur wrote the screenplay based on Jonasson’s stage play of the same name as well as news reportage of the events.
