Pablo Larraín is reuniting with Netflix on Once (Eleven), the Chilean auteur’s latest examination of his country’s recent dark past that marks his first Chilean feature since The Count (El Conde) in 2023.

Production is scheduled to begin in Chile in the second half of the year, centred on 11 stories during the coup of September 11 1973 in which General Augusto Pinochet ousted president Salvador Allende.

The interwoven stories paint a picture of the 18 hours in which the coup unfolded, culminating in the bombing of the presidential palace and Allende’s suicide.

Fabula, the company co-founded by Larraín and his brother and longtime producer Juan de Dios Larraín, is producing Eleven based on a screenplay by Pablo Larraín and the Chilean playwright Guillermo Calderón.

The cast includes Alfredo Castro, Roberto Farías, Octavia Bernasconi, Marcial Tagle, Marcelo Alonso, and Fernanda Finsterbusch.

Pinochet and his brutal regime have been a common thread in Larraín’s work in films such as Tony Manero, No, Post Mortem, and The Count. His feature credits include The ClubJackie, Spencer, Neruda, and most recently Maria starring Angelina Jolie.
