EXCLUSIVE: Eva Victor’s comedy drama Sorry, Baby is to open the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) in August, following its world premiere at Sundance and its upcoming screening at Cannes in Directors’ Fortnight.
Victor also stars in her feature debut, alongside Naomi Ackie and Lucas Hedges. It is produced by Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryak and Moonlight director Barry Jenkins. A private trauma haunts a young woman long after it occurred. When a friend visits her, she starts to realise how stuck she has been.
Victor won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award for the film at Sundance. A24 will release in the US later this year, with Picturehouse Entertainment distributing in UK-Ireland.
“This is a film that completely floored us,” said Paul Ridd, EIFF CEO and festival director. “Its witty and moving script and formal confidence is married to heartbreaking performances from a wonderful cast, and it signals Eva Victor as a major talent on screen and behind the camera. The film’s fierce, uncompromising spirit and independence perfectly aligns with EIFF, and we are honoured to open this year’s festival with such a wonderful film.”
EIFF runs from August 14-20. More information will be released on the 2025 festival in the coming weeks, which promises a continued focus on new talent discovery.
