‘I Spy With My Little Eye’

EXCLUSIVE: German sales outfit Epsilon Film has taken world rights to female-led drama I Spy With My Little Eye, which has its world premiere in competition at Tribeca Film Festival in June.

Epsilon will be introducing the film to buyers at next month’s Cannes Marché.

I Spy With My Little Eye marks the debut feature of St. Petersburg-born Alisa Kolosova. Billed as an “emotionally resonant drama about women in their 30s”, the film is loosely based on a true story. The screenwriter is Judith Rose Gyabaah.

The story follows Yalda and Lou, friends in their early 30s who are left to cope after the suicide of their best friend, Solveigh. They need to decide which of them is best suited to take custody of Solveigh’s five-year-old daughter. As they begin clearing out Solveigh’s apartment, the two women reflect on their shared past and slowly rediscover the connection that once held them together.

The three leads are played by rising German actors Saskia Rosendahl (Lore, Never Look Away), Svenja Jung and Soma Pysall. The supporting cast includes Meret Becker, Tara Westenberger, Luise Landau and Merle Staacken.

I Spy With My Little Eye was produced by Philipp Maron and Tristan Bähre of Maverick Film. It was made through BR, WDR and ARTE, with support from FFF Bayern, MBB Brandenburg, DFFF and FFA.

German distribution will be handled by Filmwelt Verleihagentur.

Epsilon is the joint venture between former Global Screen executives Alice von Einem and Julia Weber and the Beta Film Group. Since launching in 2024, the company has achieved significant success with its animation slate, including The Amazing Maurice 2, based on the books by Terry Pratchett, and Nessie Junior.

It has also done strong business with the third and fourth instalments of the live-action family adventure franchise School Of Magical Animals.

Other dramas on its slate include Lassie And The Wild Bear and Robin And The Hoods starring Naomie Harris and Gwendoline Christie.
