Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton will reunite for the first time since 1996 hit The First Wives Clubs in Family Jewels, which 1917 producer New Republic Pictures has won in auction from a pitch by screenwriter Peter Hoare.

The multigenerational family comedy sees the three stars play women forced to spend the Christmas holidays together, along with their children and grandchildren, after the man they were all once married to drops dead in a New York City department store.

New Republic principals Brian Oliver and Bradley Fischer will produce, along with Alan Nevins. Tracey Nyberg will serve as executive producer.

Fischer and Nevins packaged the project with the three leads and, together with Nyberg, brought in screenwriter Hoare.

New Republic is eyeing a 2020 production start for the film. “The chemistry of Diane, Bette and Goldie is unmatched and irresistible, and I’m thrilled to help reunite them on screen for generations of fans,” said Fischer.

“This movie fits perfectly in our plan to finance and produce four to six major studio theatricals a year and puts movie stars back where they ought to be – on the big screen” added Oliver.

Last year Hoare was involved in one of the biggest deals out of Cannes Film Festival when Paramount acquired his original spec Down Under Cover, which has Chris Hemsworth and Tiffany Haddish attached to star.

His new feature, Standing Up, Falling Down, is being released on Friday.

Michael Moskowitz negotiated the deal for New Republic with Manatt, Phelps and Phillips. Hoare is represented by Kailey Marsh at Brillstein, and Hayes Robbins at Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.

New Republic has more than 20 films and television projects in various stages of production and produced Sam Mendes’ 1917 with Amblin Partners and Universal Pictures, and the Dexter Fletcher film Rocketman with Paramount Pictures.

Its development slate includes the Image Comics graphic novel Undiscovered Country from Scott Snyder and Charles Soule.
