Director Gurinder Chadha is among the speakers confirmed for the UK-India film co-production market Film Conclave on May 26.
The one-day event takes place in London and aims to encourage co-productions between UK and India. It forms part of the UK’s annual India Week, hosted by the Economic Policy Group (EPG).
Co-produced by ReelN Ltd, Film Conclave involves a series of panels, keynote sessions, scheduled meetings and curated networking opportunities.
Chadha will participate in an in-conversation about the Bend It Like Beckham director’s influence on diasporic cinema as well as discussing representation and creative risk-taking.
Earlier this week, the UK and India signed a Cultural Cooperation Agreement and have recently agreed a trade deal.
Further panels include ‘Increasing Audience Access and Distribution’, which explores the barriers preventing films from reaching wider audiences, the role of streaming platforms, and the potential for broader cross-cultural engagement.
Speakers will include Agnieszka Moody, the BFI’s head of international relations; Pranab Kapadia, director of Indian film distributor Moviegoers Entertainment; and Bhavana Mistry, former vice president of Eros International.
There will be a panel on India-UK co-production success stories featuring Invest India’s Shruti Rajkumar; Australia India Film Council’s Anupam Sharma; Cactus Pears producer Neeraj Churi; and filmmaker Neil Biswas.
Film Conclave will conclude with an evening drinks reception, expected to be attended by over 200 guests including executives from Netflix, BBC, ITV, Bollywood and more.
