Oscar nominee Kirsten Dunst will join returning Sydney Sweeney in psychological thriller The Housemaid’s Secret, which Lionsgate International will start pre-selling to buyers in Cannes.

Paul Feig returns to direct the sequel to The Housemaid, which opened in December 2025 and starred Sweeney as Millie the housekeeper alongside Amanda Seyfried. The film earned $395m at the global box office and $126m in North America.

The Housemaid’s Secret will see Sweeney reprise her role as Millie who accepts a job keeping house for a woman she is never allowed to see and uncovers the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own. Michele Morrone returns as the brooding Italian groundsman Enzo.

Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman, Feig and his partner Laura Fischer of Pretty Dangerous Pictures, and Sweeney through her Fifty-Fifty Films return as producers, alongside screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine who is adapting Freida McFadden’s novel.

McFadden has written The Housemaid, The Housemaid’s Secret, The Housemaid Is Watching, and short story The Housemaid’s Wedding.

Hidden Pictures’ Carly Elter and Alex Young serve as executive producers, and Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio are overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Robert Melnik negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio.

Dunst recently starred in Roofman and Civil War and will be seen in the sequel to A Minecraft Movie in June 2027 as well Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down.
