Lionsgate has picked up most of the world excluding mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao to producer Bill Kong’s Toronto International Film Festival Midnight Madness selection The Furious.

The company plans a 2026 theatrical release for the story of a humble tradesman who teams up with a troubled journalist to battle a criminal network and rescue his abducted daughter.

Early in the project’s development Kong, whose credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero, and House Of Flying Daggers, joined forces with XYZ Films of The Raid franchise among many other genre titles.

Veteran action choreographer Kenji Tanigaki makes his feature directorial debut from a script by Mak Tin Shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan Sin, and Frank Hui. The cast features Xie Miao, Joe Taslim from The Raid, Yang Enyou, Brian Le, Yayan Ruhian, Jija Yanin, Joey Iwanaga, Sahajak Boonthanakit, and Manatsanun Phanlerdwongsakul.

Bill Kong of Edko Films produced with Hui and Shan Tam. Executive producers include Nate Bolotin, Todd Brown, Maxime Cottray, Nick Spicer, and Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films, with Michael J. Werner and Xu Tianfu.

Edko Films will release day-and-date with Lionsgate on the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao in 2026.
