Studiocanal and Heyday Films are in development on a Mr. Men Little Miss film, the first feature adapted from the iconic children’s books.
The two companies, who previously collaborated on the Paddington films, are teaming up with Mister Men Limited, part of Japan’s Sarino Group company, which owns the rights to the Mr. Men extended franchise.
Created by UK author and illustrator Roger Hargreaves, the first Mr. Men children’s books launched in 1971, followed by a Little Miss series in 1981. Spanning over 90 characters, the franchise has major markets in the UK, US, Australia and Asia.
The Mr. Men and Little Miss characters have previously been adapted into an animated YouTube series, with a second animated series currently in production for TV, but this project marks the first big-screen adaptation.
Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin will oversee the Mr. Men Little Miss feature for Studiocanal.
The Paddington films have grossed over $700m worldwide and have been nominated for five Baftas.
