French production powerhouse Newen Studios has acquired Vanessa Djian’s Paris-based Daï-Daï Films, the latest addition to its growing group of European production labels.
Since its launch in 2017, Daï-Daï Films has co-produced several ambitious French and international projects including Fred Cavaye’s Farewell, Mr. Haffmann alongside Vendôme Pictures and Pathé, and Alexis Michalik’s Cyrano My Love.
Newen Studios is the production subsidiary of French media giant TF1 group and houses more than 40 labels.
Djian was an associate producer on Laure De Clermont-Tonnerre’s English-language Sundance title The Mustang, Jean Dujardin-starrer La French plus Cédric Jimenez’ The Man With The Iron Heart.
Djian has also worked as an assistant director on projects from Christopher Nolan, Luc Besson, Dany Boon and Clint Eastwood. While working on the French production of Gossip Girl, she met French producer Alain Goldman. She joined his firm Légende as head of France and international development before founding Dai-Dai.
Djian is also notably the founder of parity and equality group Girls Support Girls Paris.
Newen Studios’ managing director France Vincent Meslet cited “the editorial singularity of Daï-Daï films and the personality of Vanessa Djian” that “will offer us new opportunities and affirm our strategy of diversifying the genres produced by Newen Studios.”
Djian added that Newen Studios “shares my vision and ambitions through Dai-Dai Films to produce content with strong and popular subjects. Its expertise in financing and international development will allow Dai-Dai Films to pursue a dynamic synergy with talents by providing a rewarding and quality environment.”
The Dai-Dai acquisition comes after Newen added Nordic film and TV company Anagram to its family of production companies in October and took a majority stake in London-based feature doc producer Rise Films in July.
Newen Studios has arms in 11 countries, complete with more than 50 creative labels and a team of more than 600.
