EXCLUSIVE: Screen can unveil the first trailer for Annemarie Jacir’s Palestine 36’, which has been selected as Palestine’s entry to the international feature film Oscar award for 2026.

The film is set during 1936-39 and follows a man navigating between Jerusalem and his rural home amid escalating unrest with the British Empire rulers.

It world premiered at Toronto film festival as a Gala Presentation last month, and will have its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on Friday (October 17).

France’s mk2 films and Lucky Number are handling international sales, with Curzon releasing in the UK and Ireland on October 31.

The cast includes Hiam Abbass, Saleh Bakri, Robert Aramayo, Billy Howle, Liam Cunningham, Dafer L’Abidine, Yasmine Al-Massri, Yumna Marwan, Karim Daoud Anaya and Jeremy Irons.

It is produced by Ossama Bawardi for Philistine Films, with additional production companies Autonomous and Corniche Media from the UK, France’s MK Productions and Denmark’s Snowglobe.
