Ruby Films are executive producing the 1930s set Dancing On The Edge which will air on BBC 2.
Chiwetel Ejiofor and Matthew Goode are to star in TV drama series Dancing On The Edge, written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff. It will be Poliakoff’s first drama series, as opposed to one off dramas such as The Lost Prince. His last feature film was Glorious 39.
Commissioned by BBC controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson and BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow, the drama series will also star Jacqueline Bisset, Janet Montgomery, Joanna Vanderham, Tom Hughes, Angel Coulby, Wunmi Mosaku, Mel Smith, Anthony Head, Caroline Quentin and Jane Asher.
Set in the early 1930s, the drama centres around black jazz musicians the Louis Lester Band, as they find fame amongst the parties and performances of London’s upper class society.
Phillipa Lowthorpe is co-directing, with Nicky Kentish Barnes producing.
Alison Owen, Paul Trijbits and Faye Ward are executive producing for Ruby Film and Television.
Shooting will take place in London and Birmingham for 16 weeks.
The project has received funding through Endgame Entertainment, Playground, Creative England (through the Advantage Media Production Fund, previously managed by Screen West Midlands), and LipSync Productions.
ITV Studios Global Entertainment will distribute the series internationally.
