Tallinn world premieres The Megalomaniacs and Veins have been boarded by Reason8 for world sales, as part of the UK sales agent’s American Film Market (AFM) slate.
The Megalomaniacs is an English-language comedy drama from Greek-Colombian filmmaker Spiros Stathoulopoulos, and stars Greek-born To A Land Unknown actor Angeliki Papoulia alongside Belgian star Jan Bijvoet.
The film is about an archaeologist who travels to a remote Greek island with an eccentric artist to test her theory that ancient pottery may hold traces of recorded sound.
It is produced by Konstantinos Vassilaros of Greece’s StudioBauhaus, with co-producers Stelios Kammitsis and Jose David Corredor. It will play in the ‘rebels with a cause’ section at Tallinn next month.
Raymond St-Jean’s Veins is a Canadian French-language geriatric body horror, produced by Canada’s Nicolas Comeau through 1976 Productions. It world premieres in the official competition at Tallinn.
Veins tells the story of a woman who arrives home for the weekend to discover her father has been three days dead and buried, while her mother behaves strangely.
Also on Reason8’s AFM slate is Hille Norden’s German erotic drama Easy Girl, which has its international premiere in Tallinn’s first feature competition and follows two friends on a journey of carefree one-night stands. The company is also selling Javier Marco’s Spanish drama and Gijon Film Festival world premiere Nothing Personal, starring Sonia Almarcha and Manolo Solo. It is about a well-known TV host who confronts a man about a cruel message he posted about her online, which leads to an unexpected bond.
Reason8’s Anna Krupnova said the films “not only demonstrate strong artistic merit and festival potential following their world premieres but also show real promise for crossover commercial success”.
The AFM takes place in Los Angeles from November 11-16.
