Experts providing insight into how producers can access the UK’s tax credits and an interview with Harris Dickinson about his directorial debut Urchin are among the highlights of the first day of the Cannes UK pavilion programme on Friday May 16.
Sinéad McHugh, partner at chartered accountants Saffery, and Anna Mansi, BFI’s director of the video games and certification unit, will discuss the Audio-Visual Expenditure Credit and Independent Film Tax Credit (IFTC, 53% headline credit rate) at an event from 09.30.
”The new enhanced Audio-Visual Expenditure Credit, also known as the Independent Film Tax Credit (IFTC), is a great move by the UK government to provide 39.75% [in actual relief] to UK qualifying films,” said McHugh.
”My hope is that everyone leaves this panel with clarity on the qualification process to access the Audio-Visual Expenditure Credits (AVEC) including the new enhancement for UK qualifying films, IFTC.”
Dickinson will be joined by Urchin director of photography Josêe Deshaies and producer Archie Pearch to talk about his Un Cetain Regard title. (11:30-12:30).
A conversation with international funds about co-production from the perspective of minority producer partners will take place from 14.00-15.00. It will feature Julie Blondin, national director, business affairs and co-production, Telefilm Canada; Dany Delvoie, project manager international, Netherlands Film Fund; Birthe Klinge, CEO, advisor and funding executive, German Federal Filmboard (FFA); and Denitsa Yordanova, head of the UK Global Screen Fund and international fund, BFI.
The day concludes with an introduction to the UK’s film festival heads, featuring Kristy Matheson, director BFI festivals; Paul Ridd, CEO and festival director, Edinburgh International Film Festival; and Allison Gardner, Glasgow Film Festival director, from 16:00-17.00.
