New projects by Teodora Ana Mihai, Fien Troch and Bas Devos are among the first titles announced for the Flanders Film Days showcase, which takes place October 6-7 in collaboration with Film Fest Gent.
Formerly known as Connext, Flanders Film Days focuses on feature-length fiction, animated, documentary and experimental films produced with the support of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF).
Mihai, whose Heysel 85 premiered this year as a Berlinale Special Gala, will pitch dark relationship drama Deux Vies, co-scripted with Ans Vroom and actress Natali Broods, who will also play the lead role.
Also to be pitched is L’Invention Du Sauvage, a historical drama set in 1897 by two-time Venice-selected director Troch.
The feature documentary A Feeling For The Ice, about Belgian polar explorer Dixie Dansercoer directed by brothers Lennart and Maarten Stuyck, who were recently awarded best doc series at Canneseries for The Deal With Iran, will also be pitched, as will the animated feature project Dreamwalker by Rudi Mertens, produced by Vivi Film.
Flanders Film Days will also present the first excerpts from films in post-production including Oh Lovely Belgium by Flemish director Stijn Coninx, his first drama feature since 2018’s Don’t Shoot, as well as Devos’s fifth feature Visitor and Postcard, the debut feature of promising newcomers Anthony Nti and Chingiz Karibekov.
Among the documentary works in progress are Hello!? by Sofie Benoot, a recent award winner at the Visions du Réel Industry Platform, and The Six by Reiner Holzemer, about six Antwerp avant-garde fashion designers who conquered the international fashion world 40 years ago. The Six is co-scripted by Fleur Pierets, whose book Julian was filmed in 2025 by Cato Kusters.
Completed titles set to be screened at Flanders Film Days include Patrice Toye’s post-Second World War drama The Assignment, and Heartbreak For Beginners by Bavo Defurne and Yves Verbraeken, an adaptation of the Flemish literature classic Cardboard Boxes by best-selling author Tom Lanoye.
The first edition of the newly branded Flanders Film Days was held last year in partnership with Film Fest Gent. The inaugural programme included Lukas Dhont’s Coward, which premiered in Cannes Competition last month winning the best actor award for co-leads Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne, as well as Berlinale titles Dust by Anke Blondé and Heysel 85.
