Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy The Banshees Of Inisherin has received the most nominations for the 43rd London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, with nine, including film of the year, director of the year and screenwriter of the year.
McDonagh last triumphed at the 2018 awards, with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri winning three awards: best film, best actress for Frances McDormand and best screenwriter for McDonagh.

The Banshees Of Inisherin stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and follows the unravelling friendship of two men living in a remote part of Ireland. All four of its principal stars have received acting nominations.
It is closely followed by Charlotte Wells’ debut, Aftersun, which is featured in eight categories. The Paul Mescal-led drama was recently the big winner at the British Independent Film Awards (Bifas), where it won seven prizes.
Todd Field’s culture-war drama Tár, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s fantastical family portrait Everything Everywhere All At Once and Sebastian Lelio’s Florence Pugh-led drama The Wonder all have scored six nominations.
This year’s winners will be announced at London’s May Fair hotel on February 5, for the first in-person ceremony after two years of virtual editions. The awards are given by the 200-members film section of the Critics’ Circle, the UK’s longest-standing critics’ organisation.
