The Power Of The Dog won best film, with Campion taking best director; plus actor of the year for Benedict Cumberbatch, and supporting actor of the year for Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Two films scored two individual awards each: Netflix’s Passing, with supporting actress of the year for Ruth Negga and breakthrough British/Irish filmmaker for writer-director Rebecca Hall; and Modern Films’ Drive My Car, with foreign language film of the year and screenwriter of the year for Ryusuke Hamaguchi and Takamasa Oe.

Olivia Colman took the best actress prize for her role in Netflix’s The Lost Daughter; it is her third award from the Circle, having won previously for Tyrannosaur and The Favourite.

Tilda Swinton picked up the British/Irish actress of the year prize for her body of work throughout the year, having appeared in Memoria, The French Dispatch and Picturehouse Entertainment’s British/Irish film of the year winner The Souvenir Part II. Andrew Garfield received the respective men’s award for Tick, Tick… BOOM!, The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Mainstream.

The ceremony took place virtually on the London Critics’ Circle YouTube channel, with critics presenting the awards remotely from The May Fair Hotel in London. An in-person event to celebrate this year’s winners is being planned for later in 2022.
