Toronto International Film Festival’s inaugural TIFF: The Market will take place from September 10-16, 2026. Eight members have been added to the global advisory committee.

TIFF announced the market in Cannes last year and said it would run concurrently with the festival, sparking immediate speculation over whether it would push back the dates to afford sales agents more time to package projects after Cannes and the summer break.

Screen understands TIFF brass gamed out pushing back the dates and stuck with the second-week slot after they decided a short delay would not have a material impact, and wanted the festival to remain within the early fall awards season trifecta alongside Venice and Telluride.

The initiative, supported by a three-year C$23m (USD $16.9m) investment by the Canadian federal government, will be situated in dedicated spaces within the TIFF footprint in downtown Toronto. Sources have speculated this might be Metro Toronto Convention Centre, although TIFF had not confirmed at time of writing.

The market will encompass features, series and immersive and innovative projects, with a focus on emerging Canadian talent. It remains to be seen how sales and any other commerical transactions between US and Canadian individual attendees and companies will be impacted in light of US president Donald Trump’s recent statements on tariffs.

The new global advisory committee additions are: Moses Babatope of The Nile Media Entertainment Group; Michael Barker of Sony Pictures Classics; Arianna Bocco of Mubi; Janet Brown of BBC Studios; producer Diana Bustamante Escobar; Vicki Dobbs Beck of Lucasfilm and ILM; Jeongin Hong of Megabox; and Laura Michalchyshyn of Blue Ant Studios.

They join previously announced members Niv Fichman, Vincent Maraval, Jérôme Paillard, Noah Segal, Monique Simard, Roeg Sutherland, and Kerry Swanson.

TIFF 50th edition will run September 4–14, 2025.
