UK gender equality group Birds’ Eye View, that aims to achieve gender equity and justice in all film spaces, has created  an 11-strong advisory group including Altitude’s Lia Devlin, Apple’s Julie La’Bassiere, BFI London Film Festival programmer Rowan Woods and Mogul Mowgli producer Bennett McGhee, as part of a restructure that includes changes to the board of trustees.

The advisory group has been established as an additional framework of support for the charity.

“Our newly established advisory group will offer a support network for the charity’s team and trustees, helping Birds’ Eye View to keep up-to-date with opportunities, challenges and the needs of the film industry. Members will offer advice, ideas, signposting and connections within their areas of expertise and experience,” said a statement from the charity, which has been under the directorship of Melanie Iredale since 2021. The advisory group offers insights from across such sectors as production, international sales, distribution, exhibition and publicity.

Transitioning from the board of trustees to the advisory group are La’Bassiere, awards, publicity and marketing strategy consultant at Apple;  Sharon Budwal, European head of finance at AEG Entertainment; Devlin, managing director of Altitude Distribution; and Jill Tandy, who is co-founder of the Breaking The Glass Ceiling and Inside Pictures leadership programmes.

They are joined on the group by Sophie Buckle, film booking director at Odeon cinemas; Jessica Edwards, consultant and former Doc Society director of impact and partnerships; Violette Martin, head of distribution and international sales at Film Soho/Studio Soho; Home Team producer McGhee; Laura Rothwell, founder of content agency Crystalised; Tolu Stedford, co-CEO Story Compound and former co-CEO of the Independent Film Trust; and Woods, BFI London Film Festival programmer and Shudder/AMC acquisitions consultant.

Peter Buckingham and Barbara Dias Otao have stepped down from the board, and Fozia O’Dowd, producer at Public Display of Affection Films and former production accountant, has joined the board in the role of treasurer.
