UK film and television training body ScreenSkills has extended its Covid-19 safety training, adding two further levels via remote training courses.
Launched today (December 7), intermediate training will prepare heads of department to take responsibility for safety measures on a production, with information tailored to different departments.
Advanced training will enable second assistant directors and above to operate in the role of Covid supervisor, including producing protocols and risk assessments.
Some 225 places are available across the two free courses, which are funded by the ScreenSkills Film Skills Fund and reflect the evolving guidance and science around Covid-19.
The training will initially run from January to mid-March, to reflect expectations that Covid restrictions will remain in place throughout the winter months.
The courses have been developed by industry health and safety body First Option, following a tendering process.
First Option has already partnered with ScreenSkills on the organisation’s basic training, which launched at the end of June. ScreenSkills reports that 44,000 people have passed this online training to date.
“We have listened closely to what industry has said it needs over and above the basic training we launched in the summer,” said ScreenSkills CEO Seetha Kumar. “We think these two targeted interventions will provide important additional support to those with greater responsibility for ensuring safety on set and location, helping the recovery and continued growth of the UK screen sector.”
