Miso Film and DR’s ambitious feature and television project will be directed by Ole Bornedal.
Epic war project 1864 is to start shooting on April 8 in the Czech Republic before moving onto Denmark.
The $30m (€23m) project will be produced by Miso Film in cooperation with DR and support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond, and is based on the best-selling novels Slagtebænk Dybbøl and Dommedag Als by Tom Buk-Swienty.
Ole Bornedal writes and directs, with the cast including the likes of Norwegian rising star Jacob Oftebro, Søren Malling, Pilou Asbæk and Sidse Babett Knudsen.
Telling a love story set against the backdrop of the Danish-German war, 1864 will comprise of a TV series of 8 x 58mins and a feature film of 150 minutes, and is set to be delivered in December 2014.
The feature and TV series are available worldwide excluding Scandinavia, German and French-speaking Europe.
