John Carpenter will serve as executive producer on Los Angeles-based Barry Films’ The Hell Within to be directed by Brazil’s Dennison Ramalho.

Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) wrote the screenplay from an original idea by Ramalho and Storm King Productions’ Sandy King about a woman who ventures into the Brazilian jungle believing she is trying to save a girl.

“We are very excited to have John Carpenter as a partner,” Barry Films’ Benito Mueller said. “Not only is he bringing great visibility to the project, he is also a great asset for director Dennison Ramalho to work with.”

“John Carpenter re-wrote the landscape of horror with his seminal shape-shifting monster film The Thing, so I am obviously thrilled to have him on board,” Ramalho said.

The Hell Within will be structured as a Brazilian-German co-production and shot in the Amazon.  Barry Films is currently in production at the MMC Studios Cologne on When Pigs Have Wings, an off-beat look at the Gaza conflict, in coproduction with Marilyn Productions and Saga Film.

It is also in post-production on The Bad Intentions, a Peruvian tale in the tradition of South American magic realism.
