Guillermo Del Toro, The Jim Henson Company and Pathe envision a dark retelling of Carlo Collodi’s classic tale that will entail a series of adventures.

Gris Grimly is animating the story and will co-direct with The Fantastic Mr Fox animation director Mark Gustafson.

Production is set to commence later in the year. Del Toro and his frequent collaborator Matthew Robbins have been developing the screen story for the past year and Robbins wrote the screenplay.

Del Toro will produce with Lisa Henson and Jason Lust of The Jim Henson Company and Allison Abbate. Gary Ungar will serve as executive producer alongside Francois Ivernel and Cameron McCracken for Pathe. Nick Cave will serve as music consultant.
