Werc Werk Works and Likely Story have brought on Lawrence Kasdan to direct the comedy Darling Companion starring Kevin Kline and Diane Keaton.

Richard Jenkins and Elisabeth Moss round out the lead cast on the story of a woman who loves her dog more than her husband and enlists her friends to help find the animal after her husband loses it.

Meg Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay and previously collaborated on the Oscar nominated screenplay for Grand Canyon.

Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman will produce with Werc Werk Works CEO Elizabeth Redleaf and Lawrence Kasdan. Werc Werk Works co-founder Christine Walker is serving as executive producer with Meg Kasdan and John Kelly.

The production is scheduled for a 30-day shoot in Utah starting in late September.

“Lawrence Kasdan has a rich tradition of making comedies filled with a love of life – and Darling Companion has all species of it,” Bregman said. “This is a movie about the most basic human challenge: to share with each other the higher level of love, companionship, and trust that humans share with their pets.”
