Rising star Luke Evans is to play the lead in action thriller The Amateur American, to be directed by Ross Katz, which is due to start shooting in Europe in September.

Producer turned director Katz, who made his directorial feature debut with HBO’s 2009 film Taking Chance, has also written the screenplay for the feature, which is an adaptation from J. Saunders Elmore’s novel of the same name. Evans will play a young American living in Paris who accepts a job working for a shadowy employer and finds himself framed for murder.

It is being produced by FilmNation Entertainment’s Aaron Ryder and Anthony Bregman of Likely Story, with FilmNation also handling international sales.

Tamara Drewe actor Luke Evans recently wrapped production on The Raven alongside John Cusack, and will also be seen in Summit’s The Three Musketeers with Logan Lerman and Orlando Bloom, and Tarsem Singh’s Immortals alongside Henry Cavill.

Meanwhile FilmNation is also in post-production on House at the End of the Street starring Jennifer Lawrence, Max Thieriot, and Elisabeth Shue, in development on F*cking Engaged with Jessica Biel, and Message From The King from writers Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell.
