Relativity Media has cast Julia Roberts to play a wicked queen in its untitled Snow White adventure.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in April for a June 29 2012 release. Tarsem Singh, currently in post-production on Relativity’s November release Immortals, will direct the retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

The story will follow the girl’s exploits as she bands together with seven bickering dwarves to avenge the death of her father at the hands of her stepmother.

Melissa Wallack and Jason Keller wrote the screenplay and Relativity head Ryan Kavanaugh will produce with Bernie Goldmann and Brett Ratner. Relativity’s president of worldwide production Tucker Tooley serves as executive producer alongside Jeff Waxman, Tommy Turtle, Jamie Marshall, Josh Pate and John Cheng.

“Julia was our first and only choice to play the Queen,” Kavanaugh said. “She is an icon and we know that she will make this role her own in a way that no one else could.”
