Watchmen and Hellboy producer Lloyd Levin has acquired film rights to Stranger Comics’ The Untamed ahead of the comic’s publication.

The news came as Comic-Con was drawing to a close after four days of studio panels and presentations.

Sebastian A Jones wrote the comic and Peter Bergting is the artist on the tale about a man who makes a deal with the devil to be released from hell for seven days, in which time he plans to wreak havoc on the seven souls that killed him and his family.

Levin will produce with Andrew Sugerman and Jones, who is adapting the screenplay. BOOM! Studios co-founder Andrew Cosby will direct.

“We want to do for fantasy what The Matrix did for cyberpunk, and what the The Dark Night did for superheroes,” Levin said. “Like those films, we consider ours to be an important evolution in the genre. It’s dark, powerful, gut-wrenching stuff, unlike anything that’s currently being done.”

Levin’s producer credits include Green Zone.
