The Weinstein Company(TWC) has signed a three-picture, first-look deal with Akeelah And The Bee writer-director Doug Atchison.

The first two titles under the deal are the romantic comedy Outspoken and the First World War romance The Last Caravan. Atchison's manager Lou Pitt will produce both projects.

TWC co-president of production Michael Cole and senior vice presidents ofproduction Kelly Carmichael and Carla Gardini will oversee production on behalfof the company.

"[Doug] did a fantastic job with Akeelah And The Bee, and clearly understands how to make films thataudiences will love," Cole said. "We're looking forward to making great filmstogether."

"When you look at the long list of great movies Harvey Weinstein has madepossible, you realise his taste is second to none," Atchison added.

"He has a history of supporting filmmakers and giving them an opportunity tocreate legitimate, lasting bodies of work. I'm thrilled to be associatedwith a man and a company who respect the art of film and know how to helpspecial movies find the widest possible audience."

Prior to Akeelah, Atchison wrote,produced, and directed The Pornographer. He recently co-wrote the adaptation of the upcoming race drama SpinningInto Butter. He is represented byICM and Pitt.
