The Queen leads the nominees for the 20th European Film Awards with six nominations, and The Last King of Scotland follows with five.

Nominees for best European Film 2007 are Cristian Mungiu's 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Fatih Akin's The Edge Of Heaven; Kevin Macdonald's The Last King Of Scotland, Olivier Dahan's La Vie En Rose, Marjane Satrapi & Vincent Paronnaud's Persepolis, and Stephen Frears' The Queen.

The two leading EFA nominees, which of course both won Oscars in February, underscore what some industry watchers says is a problem with the EFAs eligibility and timing. Some producers say that the timing of the awards (and eligible films) should be shifted to be more in line with the Oscars and the Baftas.

Films such as The Queen, Perfume and Black Book were launched in 2006 but weren't eligible for last year's EFAs. Films have to be submitted before the end of June.

The 1,800 members of the European Film Academy will now vote on the winners, which will be announced Dec 1 in Berlin.

The European Film Academy has planned this year's conference with the subject Europe On The Move - Migration In Movies. Film-makers to discuss the topic include Stephen Frears, Zuli Aladag, Gela Babluani, Neco Celik, Abdellatif Kechiche and Jocelyne Saab.
