Vue Entertainment is set to become the largest cinema circuit equipped with Sony 4K digital capability in Europe.

UK cinema chain Vue has inked its deal with Sony to install Sony 4K projectors across its circuit of 68 cinemas and 657 screens in the UK and Ireland.

The conversion process will start immediately and is expected to take 18 months to complete. Vue’s cinema in Fulham, London, has already been fully converted.

The 4K format offers a four-times increase in resolution over 2K projectors.

The transition to all digital screens also heralds a new era for cinema offering greater choice not only of films but also allow us to expand our range of live and recorded 3D and 2D content covering sports, music, opera, ballet, theatre, comedy gaming and other major special events.”

David McIntosh, Director, Sony Professional Solutions, Europe commented that the agreement “heralded the next generation of digital cinema”.
