Guillermo del Toro returns will return to the director’s chair for the Legendary Pictures sci-fi sequel.

Universal will release the film in 3D and Imax 3D on April 7, 2017.

Zak Penn will write the screenplay with del Toro. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni reprise their roles as producers alongside del Toro with Mary Parent and Callum Greene. Jillian Share will serve as executive producer. 

Pacific Rimopened through Warner Bros in 2013 and performed below par in North America on $101.8m but played better internationally, where it amassed $309.2m.
