Gloria racks up raft of sales
EXCLUSIVE: Sebastian Lelio’s Gloria, the buzz film in this year’s Berlinale Competition, has provoked a mini-stampede among buyers.
Following the US acquisition of the Chilean film by Roadside Attractions, other distributors are negotiating to acquire the title — one of the few contenders for the Golden Bear that has sparked real enthusiasm among both audiences and critics.
Gloria has now gone to the UK (Network Releasing), Benelux (Wild Bunch Benelux), France (Ad Vitam), German-speaking territories (Alamode), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Spain (Vertigo), former Yugoslavia (Discovery), Greece and Cyprus (Strada), Chile (BF Distribution), Brazil (Imovision) and Colombia/Ecuador (Babilla Cine).
Funny Balloons’ sales and acquisitions exec Peter Danner confirmed that every other major territory was already in negotiations and that many other deals would close shortly.
Gloria is about a 58-year-old divorcee whose children have left home and who is looking for love. The film stars Paulina Garcia.
