EXCLUSIVE: Principal photography is underway in Toronto on Scythia Films and Phenomenal Films’ Baby, How’d We Ever Get This Way.

Bruce McDonald directs the darkly comic drama about a man charged with the care of his infant son after his wife is imprisoned for having sex with an underage student.

Cher Hawrysh and Daniel Bekerman are producing Baby, How’d We Ever Get This Way, which stars Maxwell McCabe-Lokos, August Diehl, Sarah Allen and Jodi Balfour. The film received financial support from Telefilm Canada and SuperChannel.

McCabe-Lokos co-wrote the screenplay with Kelly Harms and met McDonald on The Tracey Fragments, in which McCabe-Lokos co-starred with Ellen Page.

“We’re excited to be working with Bruce, one of our strongest creative voices, on a great story with a huge amount of energy in the team,” said Hawrysh and Bekerman.

“Max McCabe-Lokos is a unique performer and has worked with Bruce to create a character piece that is equal parts creepy and funny, and that ultimately makes a poignant statement about love. It’s thrilling to find yourself identifying with a character who you never would have thought you could relate to, it’s like a curtain being pulled back on a previously hidden part of the human experience”.
