Shoot will begin next August 20, Atipica and Mod will produce.

After Dark Blue Almost Black and Cousinhood, Spanish director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo has just announced a new comedy set in his usual family world of conflicts. The Big Spanish Family (La gran familia española) will begin shooting August 20 in Madrid.

The story is set as a wedding is celebrated the same day that the Spanish soccer team is playing against Holland in South Africa back in 2010. Five brothers with biblical names Adam, Benjamin, Caleb, Daniel And Efrain are also going to play the match of their lives. The question they will face is if it’s more important to win or keep their dignity.

The cast will be announced in the following weeks. Raúl Arévalo (in next Almodovar film, newly titled I’m So Excited) and Quim Gutiérrez (Bunker) have worked very often with Arévalo and are expected on the cast. Sánchez Arévalo already portrayed a complicated wedding in his short film Traumalogía (2007), winner of several festivals and prizes in Spain.

The film is a production of José Antonio Félez Atipica Films and Fernando Boivaira Mod Productions (Agora, Biutiful) and Mercedes Gamero for Antena 3 (I Want You, Red Lights) with the collaboration of Warner Brothers. Félez also produced the previous works by Arévalo, Dark Blue Almost Black (2006), an international hit that opened in more than 15 territories and the widely released Fat People (2009) and Cousinhood (2011).

The film has a budget of almost $4m and will be distributed in Spain by Warner Brothers Pictures Intl España in 2013.
