New films on Screenbase include French drama L’oiseau, Canadian-Spanish-UK co-production Tango Dancer, as well as Masquerade (Germany, Greece, UK).
Bruno Todeschini, Serge Riaboukine, Sandrine Kiberlain and Clément Sibony will star in Yves Caumon’s L’oiseauabout a woman who loses her child and with no friends and no love her life is seemingly over when one day a bird falls into the chimney shaft of her home changing everything. The $2.5m drama is produced by Bertrand Gore with Blue Monday Productions and will commence shooting for six weeks from July 12 in Bordeaux. Les Films Du Losange handles international sales and will distribute in France.
George Kaczender’s political thriller Tango Dancer is headed by Paz Vega who will assume the role of an Argentinean woman who flees to Spain after her parents, both tango dancers, are kidnapped and tortured during the country’s dictatorship. 30 years later she discovers that her parents’ torturers are also living in Spain. Produced by Deboragh Gabler and Juliusz Kossakowski for Legacy Filmworks and Wind Fish Motion Pictures respectively, as well as Gerard Yubero for Spain, the $7m production is scheduled to start shooting in February next year. An international sales agent and distributors have yet to be appointed.
Masquerade tells the story of a young secretary who is left in a precarious position when her boss absconds with the company funds and later attempts to have her killed. Robert McLean wrote the screenplay and will also direct, producing the $9.6m film alongside Ioanna Kiourti from Pretentious Pictures. Glasgow, Paris, Geneva and London are earmarked for shooting locations in November this year. Casting is still under way with Pirates of the Caribbean’s Jack Davenport confirmed so far.
