The 37th Mill Valley Film Festival (MVFF) will take place from October 2-12 in Marin County, California.
Festival organisers have announced early selections, with Charlie’s Country, Diplomacy and Cannes hit Timbuktu (pictured) set to screen.
The event is a well informed staging post on the road to Oscar, having scheduled Bay Area premieres for five of the last six best pictures winners.
MVFF is presented by the non-profit California Film Institute.

The steadily increasing international outlook of the US Academy Awards has been confirmed once again.
The awards will take place on February 16 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.
