Icon Film Distribution has snapped up UK rights to €15 million The Devil’s Double , the Lee Tamahori film that proved one of the stand out hits in Sundance last month.
The deal was announced by Corsan World Sales on the eve of of the film’s European premiere at this year’s Berlinale. It was brokered by Corsan World Sales president Pascal Borno, Icon UK Group Managing Director (Distribution) Ian Dawson and Icon Head of UK Acquisitions Toby Hill.
Icon UK’s acquisition of the film follows on from Lionsgate’s pick-up of North American rights for the film in Sundance and the deal closed with Icon for Australia and New Zealand.
Further previously announced deals include CCV for Scandinavia, Lusomundo for Portugal, Eagle Films for the Middle East, Media Film International for Thailand, Parkit for Indonesia and JRD Films for India & Pakistan.
The Devil’s Double tells the extraordinary story of Latif Yahia, the Iraqi army lieuten-ant who became the stand-in for Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s sadistic son, Uday. The film’s stars Dominic Cooper, Ludivine Sagnier and Latif Yahia himself will be in Berlin to present the film.
Here at the EFM, Corsan is also screening footage to buyers of the new 30 million dollar production Singularity, currently in production, directed by Roland Joffé and starring Josh Hartnett, Olga Kurylenko,and Bipasha Basu. Meanwhile, Corsan are also launching a new project from John McTiernan, Shrapnel, due to start principal photography this summer.
