Strand Releasing has acquired North American rights to Lorenzo Vigas’ Venice Golden Lion winner.

From Afar (Desde Alla) received its US premiere at the AFI Film Festival where it earned a special jury prize for Screenplay. 

Vigas’ feature debut charts a man’s obsession with a young hustler and is the second in a trilogy that looks at paternity in South America.

The series started with the short Elephants Never Forget and Vigas will commence shooting final instlament The Box, anotherfeature, in Mexico next year.

Strand’s Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans brokered the deal with Hengameh Panahi of Celluloid Dreams.

“The film is sold in all major territories in Europe and some in Asia,” said Panahi. “We’re in negotiation with other distributors and believe that we’ll finalise them soon.

“Latam territoies will be negotiated after Ventana Sur as we’re receiving the offers but want to have a better vision before deciding. The only obstacle is the gay subject matter in some countries such as the Middle-East or Asia.”

Strand plan a late spring release in the US.
