Swish Films likes the sound of music doc Made In Birmingham - Reggae, Punk, Bhangra.

Roger Shannon’s Birmingham-based outfit Swish Films is representing new music feature doc Made In Birmingham - Reggae, Punk, Bhangra, directed by Deborah Aston. The film, produced by Swish in collaboration with the Birmingham Popular Music Archive, features important Brummie bands of ‘70s and ‘80s including UB40, Steel Pulse, Dexy’s Midnight Runners and Musical Youth.

The film was made with support from Screen West Midlands and the UK Film Council.

Now, Aston is planning a further music doc about cult band Au Pairs, as well as another feature doc about The Ian Campbell Folk Group.

Meanwhile, she is raising finance for feature film Paradise Bound, a contemporary drama set in Liverpool that she will produce through her company RedCarpet Media. Sue Dunderdale will direct. The coming-of-age buddy movie, is based on an award winning play by Jonathan Larkin.
