EXCLUSIVE: New York-based Visit Films has acquired international rights to a trio of market titles here, including Ivan Sen’s Aboriginal drama Toomelah which premieres in Un Certain Regard today [13].
Toomelah tells the story of a 10-year-old boy’s struggle to resist the lure of violence and drugs that surrounds him while growing up in a remote Aboriginal community in the outback of Australia. The cast includes 10-year-old Daniel Conners, who was drawn from the community of Toomelah itself. Mad Bastards producer David Jowsey produced.
Jean-Jacques Jauffret’s Directors’ Fortnight ensemble drama Heat Wave (Après Le Sud) takes place during one sweltering afternoon in the south of France, where four lives intersect. Adele Haenel, Ulysee Grosjean, Sylvie Lachat and Yves Ruellan star and the producers are Nadège Hasson, Antonin Dedet and Jean-Stèphane Sauvaire.
Sundance premiere Bellflower from Evan Glodell follows two friends who spend their time building flamethrowers and other weapons in hope that a global apocalypse will occur and clear a path for their imaginary gang, Mother Medusa. Tyler Dawson, Rebekah Brandes and Jessie Wiseman star and Bellflower was produced by Glodell and Vincent Gashaw.
Ryan Kampe will also be continuing sales on Werner Herzog’s 3D documentary Cave Of Forgotten Dreams following its successful debut through IFC Films in the US where it averaged more than $25,000 per screen.
