Screen International is profiling all the winners of the third Global Production Awards, which were held tonight (May 19) at the Mademoiselle Gray Barriere in Cannes.

Cinespace Studios - Toronto

Cinespace Studios

Studio of the Year

Winner: Cinespace Studios Toronto (Canada)

This award was presented to a studio that, through its body of work, delivered the highest standards for both productions and the local community while also showcasing development and innovation.

Winner Cinespace Studios Toronto is the largest film and television production studio facility in Ontario, with more than 1.4 million square feet over 29 active stages, production offices and support spaces spanning three major campuses.

Home to a vibrant content production community, award-winning films and Netflix’s Canadian production hub, the facility is known for large-scale practical effects capabilities. Guillermo del Toro has made Cinespace his home for many projects, most recently upcoming film Frankenstein, which features a meticulously built ship set at the facility’s Marine Terminal campus.

“Cinespace Studios Toronto combines scale with purpose, offering top-tier production infrastructure while investing in workforce equity through its CineCares workforce training programme,” noted one judge. “Every 2024 production hosted trainees, all of whom transitioned to union-permitted roles, demonstrating measurable and lasting industry impact.”

“An interesting way of not just helping marginalised groups gain access and awareness into screen-based industries, but to help boost domestic workforce development in creative and novel ways,” noted another judge.
