The five best compositions will be performed by the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich, as part of next year’s film festival.
Participants are invited to compose a piece for an orchestra to accompany a 6-minute short film. Composers from around the world aged 35 and under are eligible to enter. There will be a cash prize of 10,000 Swiss Francs.
The winning composition will be announced during a finalists’ concert on September 27, 2012 with the five best compositions as chosen by a jury being world premiered at a concert conducted by David Zinman.
“Film music constitutes an important component of a film. It was always exciting for me as a musician to explore film music. It is for this reason that the Tonhalle Orchestra and I are extremely pleased to realise this competition together with the Zurich Film Festival,” said Zinman.
The 8th Zurich Film Festival will take place from September 20 to 30, 2012.
