Between 3,000 and 5,000 film and TV industry workers in the UK are at risk of in-work poverty this winter, according to estimates from the Film and TV Charity.
The figures were produced by applying standard UK measures of poverty to the estimated income distribution of UK film and TV workers, based on official ONS statistics.
The charity is calling on individuals and businesses, who can do so, to donate money in order to help the charity continue offering support to industry workers.
This includes the series of financial tools the charity launched in September for those struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
Alex Pumfrey, CEO at the Film and TV Charity, said “Since 1924, the Film and TV Charity has relied on the generosity of the creative community to help make a positive impact on the lives of friends and colleagues in every corner of the industry. During difficult times over the last few years, it has been this generosity that has kept many talented people in the industry and that has enabled us to continue providing services that so many rely upon every day. We fully understand that times are tough, that is why we’re asking those who can to make a donation and help us ensure we can reach those in need.
“Perhaps you’ve been supported by the Charity in the past, or you would like to give back to the industry that you love – whatever the amount, all donations mean that we can continue making film, TV and cinema a better place to work for all.”
Donations can be made via the Film and TV Charity website.
